Active Families

You may know what it's like to be a parent.
But have you forgotten what it's like to be a kid?

Remember how thrilled and scared you were when you learned to ride a bike?

Do you remember how good it felt to be allowed to join in games with older children and grown-ups – especially when they let you win? Looking back now you probably realise how much you enjoyed those days and how much your kids would love to do the same.

It’s easy to include family activities in your everyday routines, whatever the weather. Weekends are perfect for getting some quality time with the children and doing something a bit different. Here are some fun and free outdoors ideas:

A Sunday walk

Explore your local area and try going a different route each week – there could be all sorts of hidden gems right on your doorstep.

Hide and seek

If there is a park near you or you have a garden, get out into it and ask your children to run and hide. Try and not giggle when it’s your turn to hide.

Get on your bikes

Taking the kids on a bike ride will get you going and all that pedalling gives your heart and lungs a good work-out too.

Family Sports Day

Try putting on a family sports day – three-legged races, egg and spoon, a sack race or a wheelbarrow race.

Nature I-Spy

You could do this in the garden or the park. Make a list of interesting things for the children to look for and get them to tick them off as they see them.
